 VM deployment in Hyper V cluster step by step

Login to Hyper V server -> Open failover cluster Manager



Select Roles -> Click on Virtual Machine

Select node from the list where you want to deploy VM

Click Next

Enter VM Name -> check mark on Store the virtual machine in a different location box

Browse and assign ClusterStorage path -> Select Volume -> Create folder

Select Virtual switch

Give VM Name and assign Disk size


Click finish


Click Finish

Now login to server with administrator privilege account or delegate user account to create computer object and update DNS entry and login with that ID.

Open failover cluster manager


Click on Create Cluster

Enter both nodes Name and click Add -> Next

Select Run all tests ->Next

Now  validation will start for all HW and Software installed in both nodes

Validation is in progress

Check mark on create the cluster now using the validated node

Give cluster Name and assign IP address.

Check mark on add all eligible storage to the cluster -> It's up to you, you can select storage latter as well.

Select Role-based or feature-based installation -> Next

Select server from the pool

Don't select anything click next

Select failover cluster -> check mark on include management tools -> click on Add features

Select restart the destination server automatically if required

Do the same on both nodes

Enter iSCSI server IP -> click quick connect

Select the iqn that you want to connect and click connect

Do the same on other nodes as well

Right Click and Initialise it-> Create new volume give Volume label

Now login to other node -> Right click and bring it online

Open Server Manager and select iSCSI


Right click and select new iSCSI Virtual Disk


Check mark on Type a custom path -> Browse -> select path and create folder -> Select folder

Click next -> Give name -> Next


Assign disk size -> select Dynamically expanding -> Next



Click New iSCSI target




Give Name





Click Add -> select enter a value for the selected type -> select IP Address from drop down -> enter iSCSI initiator IP.

Open DNS using command dnsmgmt.msc


Click on server name -> expend and click on domain Name -> Right click and select new host


Enter HostName and IP address and check mark on Update associated PTR record

Static host record have been created for both Hyper V nodes.


Ping both servers with Name to check reachability
